Angelina Yoon (b. 2002) is a Korean American artist based in Houston, Texas. She received her BFA in Painting at Rhode Island School of Design in 2024.

When I would visit Korea to see my family, we would stop by the nearby Buddhist temple. The visits often concluded with one of the monks acknowledging me by handing me a beaded prayer bracelet. The long hike to the temple, the wood floors creaking under my knees as I pray, the smell of incense lingering in the air—these moments are deeply ingrained into the bracelets. An insignificant beaded bracelet stands as a monument to myself. My work examines the mundane aspects of our environment to contemplate what forms our identity and what remains when we are gone. I treat each mundane subject as if memorializing it, taking excessive amounts of time to paint every detail only to swipe it away with a brushstroke or hide it under a veil. It is a useless feat that serves as a point of meditation and quiet emptiness. Life, death, family, and purpose—through the act of painting, the familiar subject of everyday life becomes a genuine, raw representation of the human experience and can alter into something foreign and sublime.
